Day 58 - Down Periscope

  • Fremantle
  • 22°c
The SatNav took us on a bit of a wild goose chase, but eventually we found the Maritime Museum in Fremantle. There was so much to take in with the spice traders, the "One Pound Poms" and a beautiful Antartica exhibition.

We booked in for the Submarine tour and I highly recommend it to anyone, our tour guide was super knowledgeable and interesting. We entered through the torpedo loading area and were taken the entire length of the submarine. Oscars’ favourite part was when he showed us the beer safe and where they had found a can of beer in the air-conditioning vent. The guide also showed us where they brace the exit tunnel and how someone had placed coins in between the walls and brace and that the amount of pressure that was applied to the submarine had imprinted the coin images into the steel – it was amazing.

The H.M.A.S. Ovens was flying the Jolly Roger, which the guide explained only a Submarine that has sunk another ship is entitled to fly it. He then added that the sub had never seen active service and had sunk a decommissioned Australian ship.

The Museum was really interesting, we had to try and keep up with Ella & Occy as they ran from exhibit to exhibit, it was wonderful to see them so enthused.

My favourite exhibit was the Sandman Panelvan – I know I’m super cultured! What a true Aussie Exhibit and the best thing was it even rocked – it seriously did the eh-en eh-en!

We lunched at Cicerellos – the best Fish and chippy in Fremantle (apparently)

Day 57 - Coogee Beach

  • Coogee Beach
  • 20°c
A quiet day with a bit of shopping in Fremantle.

Life can be tough around camp - had a giggle at Steve when he said the only problem with the hook I installed is that you have to lift the top key off to get the bottom key! I think we're doing pretty good if that's the only problem we've got!

We took a nice walk along Coogee Beach looking for the man on the horse that is apparently out in the water and only visible at a certain time of day, obviously we had missed that time cause he was no where to be seen.

Oscar is loving the sand dunes, it gives him a chance to work on his acrobatics!

Day 56 - It's blowing a gale!

  • Quinns Rocks – Coogee Beach
  • 63kms
  • 18°c
We were awoken early by gale force winds and hail! Mother Nature had really gotten out on the wrong side of the bed. Steve and I debated whether we should brave the wind and pack up the awning and outside setup, we decided it would pass soon, however once the awning bar crashed out of its anchor we changed our mind! Just as we were hooking up the van to head off the skies opened up again and we got soaked!

We arrived at Coogee Beach Caravan Park, there's a beach out front and a park next door.

Coogee Beach Caravan Park - $40 a night
Amenities were good, park pretty basic and tired

Day 55 - Crystal Caves

  • Quinns Rocks
  • 21°c
We took a drive out to Yanchep National Park where the Crystal Caves are located.  The national park has such beautiful grounds and a couple of old buildings.  The day wouldn't be complete without a visit to The Chocolate Shop!

We had a guided tour of the cave, it was much cooler underground, I think the deepest section was about 10 metres.

It reminded me a bit of The Goonies, although unfortunately there was no pirate ship or waterslide!

We also took a guided tour of the Koala enclosure, one of them was surprisingly active.

That would make the coolest cubby house!

We finished our day with a lovely dinner with friends and the girls thought it appropriate to dress for the occasion!

Day 54 - Fremantle

  • Quinns Rocks
  • 24°c
Happy Birthday to you! Happy Birthday dear Jessie!
We headed into Fremantle to meet Jess for her birthday, it has been a long time since we've had city traffic.

Tech heads!

After wandering around Fremantle for a bit, we finally decided on a place to have lunch. It was the yummiest wood fired pizza i've had in a long time & Steve devoured a seafood platter.

Day 53 - Must go shopping!

  • Quinns Rocks
  • 23°c
A quiet lazy morning around camp

Ella was delighted to have Jessie as her our personal stylist on our shopping trip whilst the boys went fishing!

After Jessie left we met the gang at the beach and just hung out for the rest of the afternoon.
