Day 26 - Thar she blows

  • Exmouth
  • 32°c
Another warm day, thought we'd head down to the jetty and see if there were any fish about?
On the way to the jetty we noticed an emu on the side of the road doing a bit of head ducking, so we slowed down and sure enough he decides to play chicken and dash out in front of the car.

Not sure what the government is hiding in the pyramid? Definitely intriguing!
If anyone knows the story of these pyramid structures near Learmonth, please share!

We tried our luck fishing off the jetty at Learmonth - nothing much about but did see a couple of dolphins and it was a really lovely spot for beachcombing!

The Cape Range National Park was amazing!
I don't think these photos do it justice, the landscape was really amazing. We had originally thought of free camping in the park but after the ride in, boy was it a rocky road, there was no way the van would be able to handle that road! We did find out later that was not the road in to where the campsites are!

On the way back to camp our friend the emu chicken was still loitering on the side of the road being a menace, dashing across the road.  No idea why he kept crossing the road, really seemed like he was playing.

So had to get a photo of the "Welcome to Exmouth" sign! We had missed it on the way into town the first day so we were stopping for a snapshot today.  Although in retrospect was it really that important?
Cause next thing we know as we are pulling off the road, POP! sssssssss.... grrr
Yep, we've done a tyre! The car took it in her stride, but we were definitely not impressed.  My first thought was "glad Steve got that tyre repair kit" but as Murphy would have it, we got a puncture in the one spot that couldn't be fixed; the side wall.

We were fortunate enough on a Friday afternoon to find a tyre that was suitable for the Jeep & didn't have to wait for their next delivery! After sorting the tyre we headed into town for a wander (no not where's Rhonda! - E&O) Was interesting to see that you can only get Fresh Bread on Wednesdays & Saturdays! yep no bread for us today
The day wouldn't be complete without a swim in the pool, especially after sweltering in the heat with the tyre pop.
Tonights moonlight movie - Up!

  1. Not sure what the mounds are but Learmonth was an RAAF base in World War II and is still used as an airfield today. Has been used as an emergency landing strip for commercial flights in recent years. Most notable was the Qantas flight in 2008 after the plane hit air turbulance and passengers who were not wearing their seat-belts were bounced off the ceiling! Bapa xxx
