Day 264 - Mama Peggys House

  • Melbourne
  • 19°c
Before leaving the beach house, I took a quick trip to the shops to see if I could find a dress. By chance I stumbled on a store "Vintage Revival" and found a beautiful dress. I returned to find everyone in a game of Uno.

Some choccy balls managed to avoid some young tummies and made it to Mama Peggys for morning tea. Ella took photos of some of her favourite house details, including the wall in the pantry that has all our measurements since I was little!

We had a lovely visit with Mama Peggy as always, she truly is one of the most amazing ladies I know!

Back at Gran & Grandads, Ella & Occy chilled out watching adventure time, Ella was very interested in all the wedding details.  Bec and I spent the evening doing some last minute wedding details and Sam & Sally kept a close eye on us!

Day 263 - Beach House

  • Melbourne
  • 19°c
Ella, Oscar & I headed down to the Beach House to hang out with Mama & Bapa.

Mama loves to cook which is excellent for Ella & Occy cause they love to bake with Mama.

It was lovely as always to spend time with Mama & Bapa. I even enjoyed the rain as I sat snuggled up to the heater - comfort! I was very spoilt to have my own special scones baked just for me! and boy they were delish

Day 262 - A night on the FrankyTown

  • Melbourne
  • 19°c
We had a couple of appointments today in "town", so it was the perfect chance to stop off at DFO for a bit to eat and a quick look around for a dress for me to wear to the wedding, but alas it wasn't to be!

Afternoon tea was on at K2's and it was awesome to the catch up with the girls and for Ella & Oscar to see their friends, we do miss you guys whilst we're away!

Ella & Oscar were staying with Gran & Grandad whilst we took Bec & Brad out for pre wedding celebrations!

Frankytown was our destination, where we all had a delicious dinner and Steve managed to talk the waiter into giving us discount cocktails, so of course more than one round was ordered!

Strike Bowling here we come! Brad agreed to join a bowling league with me but I'm not sure if that was the cocktails or not?

It's amazing how a pair of shoes can change an outfit!

It was a fantastic night out with these two beautiful Mr & Mrs to be!

Day 261 - Meeting Miss Lucy!

  • Melbourne
  • 18°c
Mama & Bapa came to visit and kindly lend us the car, that certainly makes getting around easier! After a quick catch up, it was shopping time! Both Oscar & Ella were in need of some special wedding clothes, so we headed into Frankytown with Mavis & Bec. Ella loved trying on all the dresses and chose a beautiful one and a gorgeous jacket to match.  Oscar found a very stylish pin striped suit and liked it so much he wanted to leave it on, he was advised otherwise!

After a most successful shopping trip we headed down to see Skipper & Charms and of course Chantell & Miss Lucy herself! She is a beautiful babe, seems so tiny, I was an absolute cuddle hog but I don't think anyone minded!

There were also lots of cuddles to be had with Indie and her furry foster sisters! Is always awesome to hang out with this gang!

On returning home, Ella & Oscar modelled their new outfits for Grandad & Brad and were given the big thumbs up!

Grandad always has Occy smiling! Brad introduced Ella & Oscar to PB&J sandwiches, which after trying a bite, happily ate Brads "strange" American sandwiches.

Day 260 - Hello Melbourne!

  • Cairns - Melbourne
  • 16°c

We were up relatively early, by our standards to pack up the caravan as it was going into storage whilst we’re in Melbourne. Ella & Oscar were very helpful and went adventuring to find us some coconuts to replace the wheel chocks as the park managers tow the van to storage then return it to our camp spot the day of our return.

After checking in we found a spot to get some schooling done as we had a couple of hours to wait for our flight. The kiddos were excited to get on the plane, however that waned once they were advised that there weren’t any tvs to be hired on this flight. This was a big blow as they were on a no-tech week due to the iTunes episode! So we flew old school, we read, played yahtzee and uno and we survived!
Piero picked us up at the airport after driving past us in the pick up bay! It was nice to see the family again.

Day 258 - Thank you Apple!

  • Cairns
  • 26°c

Last night, we were alerted by our bank, to some odd transactions on our credit card through iTunes. Upon investigation, quite a number of in app game purchases had been made accidentally! resulting in $2807.90 charged to our credit card! I emailed iTunes and explained about the accidental purchases and was soo very super happy and grateful when I received an email back stating that on this occasion they would refund the charges. Apple, you rock!

So on a much happier note we headed down to the Esplanade market where we also stumbled upon a man made lagoon, will have to come back here for a swim. The market was ok, quite a bit smaller than expected, but had some lovely sculptures of flamingos and peacocks. We did stumble upon what could maybe be called “The Big Ugg”?!

Back for a swim after lunch and then it was time to feed the turtles and fish, this time Ella spotted a sea snake and an eel! They met a brother and sister about their age and it was back to the pool for a play before the cold water got the better of them and they decided a game of soccer would be a better idea.

All was going well until the ball ended up in the fish & turtle creek! Mario skirted around the edge, across the water, clung to the branches and retrieved Oscars ball! His sister Ebby said he was fine, when I queried if he was ok to be doing that? He’s a monkey she said! So Super Mario as he has now been named and the others moved their game over and away from the creek.
It was happy hour and more kids had appeared and a game of tag took over for more than an hour. Ella and Occy scoffed their dinner and were back out to play with their new friends, only returning cause it was dark and the bugs were starting to bite!

Day 257 - Turtles!

  • Mission Beach – Cairns
  • 142kms
  • 24°c

On the road again, heading North to Cairns, today we passed roadworks!, Sugarcane and banana trees.

Some on the road investigation led us to a caravan park about 10kms from the centre of town as we were not going to pay $64 a night for a site! We set up camp and a friendly lady advised that the turtles and fish were at the creek so we made our way down to see hundreds of fish and at least a dozen turtles in the freshwater lagoon. The fish were too fast for the turtles taking the bread before they had a chance, Ella & Occy raced back to the van to get some bread and managed to feed the turtles and quite a few fish as well.

We headed into the Pier Precinct for some Wood Fired pizza only to discover it was no longer there, but the park opposite was an interesting sight; a stage setup looking a lot like a concert until closer inspection revealed a mass aerobics class going on! We found a little Pizzeria further down the road and enjoyed some yummy food before heading home in time for Steve to watch his mighty Pies!

Day 256 - Mission Beach

  • Mission Beach
  • 28°c

Happy Birthday Nini! We surprised Niks with an early (for us) morning rendition of Happy Birthday, hope you had a great day.

Our new friends were leaving this morning so we swapped details before bidding them farewell.  We are interested to hear more about their off grid solar system! Ella & Occy found the playground and enjoyed it whilst we did some housekeeping, a quick trip into town for supplies and we found “The
Big Cassowary”!

A bit of book work and then it was beach time, we had an extra long walk today and even a game of beach ball, a cross between baseball & dodgeball!

Day 255 - The Big Gumboot!

  • Balgal – Mission Beach
  • 191 kms
  • 26°c

We pulled out of camp and headed out fairly early and were once again greeted by numerous roadworks (The Big Ben of our trip!)  We stopped off in Tully at The Big Gumboot which had a pretty good view from the top.

Mission Beach was on our list of places we really wanted to see and we were not disappointed, the sand is like powder, beautiful palm & coconut trees lining the beach, spectacular views out to Dunk  Island. We found a great Council Caravan Park so decided to stay a couple of nights. The family camped next to us are really friendly, Ella & her new friend Coby went beachcombing and Ella found a piece of a sand dollar! Occy was happy to play with their dog JoJo! We chatted to Tammy & Roger until the mozzies got the better of us and we retired to our vans.

Day 254 - Balgal Beach

  • Horseshoe Bay – Balgal Beach
  • 269 kms
  • 26°c

Todays drive was filled with the sight of sugarcane, mango trees and roadworks!

We decided to try our luck at a free camp that’d been recommended to us, we were lucky we arrived when we did because we took the last spot.  Quite a nice beach, we had a lovely walk and chatted to some fellow campers before taking shelter inside on account of the midgees!

Balgal Free Camp, $0, toilets, beach front
