Day 176 - The road to Sydney

  • Barrack Point - Sydney
  • 111 kms
  • 26°c
Look out Sydney, here we come. We left about 9.30am and as we drove north Steve pointed out the different sites he worked at whilst doing his apprenticeship.

Steve wasn't looking forward to the drive today, Sydney suburb streets are not exactly caravan friendly. We were not at all happy with the car that decided to cut off a car in front of us and then slam on their brakes! Boy oh boy were we impressed with the way the caravan & car pulled up quickly and safely, apologies to Niks whom I was on the phone to, at the time of near impact for my many expletives!!

After finally getting to the van park we set up camp and decided today still had enough daylight left in it to hop on a train and head into the city. We struck out with the station closest to us as there was no parking at all? So we headed to the next nearest station Chatswood where we managed to find a parking garage close to the station.  Ella & Occy were most excited about taking the Subway to the city and worked the ticket gates like seasoned commuters, after changing trains we were on our way to Circular Quay.

Just as we disembarked the train there was an incident! I had a thong malfunction, my fave thongs found at Mustafas in Singapore some years ago had blown the front gasket. After walking half barefoot down through the station (ewww!) I wasn't giving up on my thongs, so headed to the nearest chemist for a thong repair kit (packet of safety pins) and we were on our way!

Circular Quay was really beautiful, it was such a lovely day to be out and about.  The Sydney Harbour Bridge is quite a sight and an amazing backdrop to the people going about their daily business.

Sydney Opera House is another giant feature of the Sydney landscape, so of course we had to visit and climb the steps.

We came, we saw, now what else to do whilst soaking up the Sydney sights, have an ice cream of course! So it was back on the subway across the bridge and home again.
A quick swim was on the cards, but after dipping a couple of toes in, Ella & Oscar decided it was a little cold for them.

The caravan park is part of a National Park and we were fortunate to have some Wild Bush Turkeys pop over for a visit. There was quite a lot of them about and were more than happy to take the bread Ella & Oscar offered them, they weren't very shy almost asking for more when the bread stopped!

    1. I know, I've been waiting to use that pearl of wisdom! But unfortunately the actual round plug bit busted off so I wasn't able to use it & the same thing happened a while ago to Ellas thongs
