Day 183 - Happy 6 months Karma Bus!

  • Forster Tuncurry - Trial Bay
  • 182kms
  • 29°c

Wow! We've been on this big adventure for 6 months now, we've seen so much, experienced a lot, made some lovely new friends and caught up with some old ones. Today it feels like harmony has been restored! It seems like we're getting our groove back, settling back into life on the road.

When we left Forster-Tuncurry this morning we weren't really sure of our destination other than North. After googling and phoning a number of places we chose a spot located next to the grounds of an old gaol! What an awesome spot, our campsite looks up at the gaol wall and is right on the beach, with plenty of visiting wildlife.

Fishing from the rocks on the other side of the point looked a little too treacherous and was validated by the signs advising anyone rock fishing should be wearing a life vest! So it was to the other side, where we came upon a beautiful beach with shallows that went on & on to the horizon. Ella & Occy had a game of beach soccer until Ella kicked her heel on a rock and was down for the count.  After soothing cuddles we went back into the water to let the salt water wash it out. Boy was I surprised at how warm the water was, it was so nice, Occy swam in the shallows and bodysurfed a little on the waves.

On walking back from the beach, we passed a wood pile provided for the campers, Steve found a couple of pieces for the caravan legs and Ella & Occy went back a second time to get some for building and giant dominoes! They sure thrive in wide open spaces, surrounded by nature with only their imagination to entertain them.

A pair of kangaroos came through the camp and we think she was carrying a joey, the male sure was a big fella and we were relieved when he turned away from the van instead of hopping closer to us. A couple of Kookaburras came to see what we were having for dinner, but turned their noses up at the bread Steve threw them!

One of their most fave things, a tree tall & strong enough to make a swing from. That was apparently part of their training today, that and time trials from the van, across the creek bridge, round the second big tree and back again! Best time was 32.3seconds!

Trial Bay Gaol Campground, $45.10 per night, power, water, amenities, showers 0.20c per 2 minutes, beautiful beach
