Day 306 – Katherine Hot Springs

  • Katherine
  • 31°c
After a slight sleep in our plans to walk the rim of the gorge were thrown on the back burner. Instead we headed into the information centre to book our tour of the gorge and find out about any other hidden treasures in Katherine. The only one they could recommend was the Hot Springs and it was really nice, not as  warm as Mataranka but lovely although the “croc slide patch” was of some concern! We were advised that it wasn’t the season for crocs so we were safe to take a dip.

Back at camp I was busting to open the newest member of camp… a new sewing machine! Last Christmas I reluctantly agreed to store Miss Martha in the container, a decision I think Steve may have actually regretted more than me, as there has been many an occasion that Steve has asked me to sew something from mending his fave shorts to bags (yes bags!). So today when we saw the post office had them at bargain prices, we couldn’t resist.

The afternoon wasn’t complete without a trip to the pool and a visit to Elvis, who was nowhere to be seen today although they did spot the snapping turtles.
At the shops Ella had picked up a science experiment, so her & Bonnie set about building the orange powered digital clock which was quite fascinating, it’s still keeping time, hours on.

Steve & Troy set up the TV in the alfresco area so they could watch the footy and cricket , they were most pleased that their pies won, I did have to remind them on more than one occasion that the players can’t hear them through the TV! Max was glued to the footy with them and the rest of the kiddos watched Harry Potter.
