Day 312 – All roads lead to Darwin!

  • Jabiru – Lee Point
  • 277kms
  • 31°c
It was only a short drive today but about the halfway point I was in need of a cuppa tea stop and it just so happened to be about the time we were approaching the Bark Hut. This is an interesting outback Aussie pub with campground.

It was perfect timing, no sooner had we walked through the pub we heard the lady say it was buffalo feeding time and boy oh boy did we know about it! I don't know if they saw her or smelt the food but the 2 buffalos came stampeding towards the fence and stopped about an inch shy!

What an awesome experience for us all, to not only see the buffalo, but to feed and pat them as well, this was definitely a meant to be stop!

After farewelling our wild friends the next stop on todays itinerary was The World Famous Humpty Doo Pub! I'm not sure what it is world famous for? But it was suffice to grab a bite of lunch before heading to the big smoke of Darwin.

We were unable to get into our preferred caravan park for the night but settled on Lee Point Caravan Park, which after checking in we were bitterly disappointed and tried every other van park in the area to no avail so we were stuck, at least it's only one night.

It just so happened that we arrived on a Thursday and that meant the Mindil Market was on, so off we convoyed to the market and got there in time to see a most beautiful sunset. The kiddos had a great time on the beach building sandcastles whilst we basked in the final sunshine for the day.

We all loved the Psycus Tent which was full of poi, fire sticks, devil sticks and many other circus bits. We picked up some devil sticks for Ellas birthday before indulging in some of the many gastronomical delights the market had to offer.

Lee Point Caravan Park, $65 powered site, dusty, small sites, small pool (we had no water so were given a $10 refund)
