Day 310 – Jim Jim Falls

  • Kakadu
  • 33°c
We hit the road headed for Jim Jim & Twin falls, about 65kms of rough red dirt was a long drive!

We were hoping to get to Twin falls but had been advised that the river crossing was currently at a water level of about .65 metres. On arriving at the river crossing we watched one car go through and could see it was quite a steep nose dive entry and without a snorkel didn't think it was a good idea, this was confirmed when said car reached the other side, opened it's door and the water poured out!

We agreed that Jim Jim Falls was the place to go and on arriving there we saw it was about a 1km walk. Although that's not far, we didn't expect it to be anywhere near as rocky as it was and in a few places actually had to use our hands to climb up and over!

We could hear the waterfall before we could see it, it's only a trickle now and I would love to see it in the wet season in all it's glory.

The Jim Jim falls is one of the most amazing places on earth! I was absolutely blown away by the sheer size of the cliff walls, the pools that formed at the bottom of the falls and the hidden beach. I only wish we had arrived earlier and been able to spend the whole day just taking it all in.

We were quite surprised that it's not more recommended by the info centre or fellow travellers we've met, however it is a place I would love to visit again.

After an absolutely wonderful day in the most amazing place, we returned to camp to be greeted by the most magical sunset!
