Day 336 – Possum Rescue

  • Howard Springs
  • 31°c
The boys returned from the wild after lunch, empty handed and tired!

Whilst on my way back from hanging out the washing I spoke with a lovely french girl Charlotte who was giving an injured possum a drink form the tap. She wasn't able to get on to the local vet so I called the wildlife rescue and they said they would send someone over. Charlotte and I tried to coax the poor thing into a box with some orange but a well meaning grey nomad took our window of opportunity as he told us how diseased they are and not to touch it. During this time the possum managed to get up a tree and out of our reach, Jo arrived with a net and after quite some time and a lot of tree shaking we finally got him into the net and resting safely in the cage for Jo to take and nurse him back to health. Jo informed us that possums have no more germs or disease than a cat or dog and that we should only feed them fruit and vegetables.

Steve & Bill gave the car a tub as she was quite dirty and now sporting a few new scratches after driving down a narrow dirt track.

We were lucky enough to be visited by our possum friend and this time we knew what to feed him - fruit, not popcorn, chips or bread!

The kiddos had a great time exhausting 3 packs of sparklers and re-enacting scenes from Harry Potter!
