Day 277 – Mossman Gorge

  • Mossman
  • 27°c

This morning we were up kinda early (by my standards!) to farewell our new friends that were heading off. Rachel & Troy we are heading up to Cooktown and we will rendevous with them at The Lions Den on Saturday, Felicity & Paul are heading South from here on out, but we organized to meet them at Mossman Gorge after we’d had breakfast.

Mossman Gorge was amazing, we’d heard mixed reactions about it, so weren’t too sure what to expect. It was such a beautiful, pristine & tranquil place, I could have stayed there a week, if it was allowed. We opted for the short boardwalk and soon came across “the beach”, which was really more like a lagoon, that was really beautiful. We had packed our bathers and Ella & Oscar were keen to go for a swim, Steve & I dipped our feet in and that was enough for us. Paul dove in and Alanna & Marcus followed, Ella & Oscar were a bit more timid but didn’t take too long and they were splashing about. It took Oscar a little while to work up to jumping from the big rock, but after he’d done it once, he wasn’t stopping! Ella decided that wasn’t for her.

We walked on the track about 700 metres until we reached the point of “either walk another 2.5kms or turn back now!” we chose the turn back option whilst the others decided they were up for the challenge, so we parted ways but organized to meet up in Cairns tomorrow.

By the time we got back to the car it was after 1.00, so we decided to head into Port Douglas for lunch. Oh how I love this place, was a little bummed we weren’t camping there but was happy we got to visit for a while! Steve, Ella & Oscar chose The Hogs Breath Café for lunch and I was more than a little skeptical that there would be anything for me to eat, but I was happily surprised when I was able to choose from a range of dishes! We had a lovely lunch and took a short stroll down the main street and of course had to stop in at my fave shop where we picked up a couple of things.

Back at camp we packed up so we  could make a quick getaway in the morning, whilst dodging the bangin nuts! and just before bedtime Ella's tooth came out, that's 3 in about as many weeks!
