Day 284 – Don't pay the ferry man!

  • Weipa – Seisia
  • 393kms
  • 29°c

Leaving Weipa we were pretty satisfied that we'd seen all the town had to see, but must say we were pleased to see a big mine dump truck on our way out of town.

Moreton Telegraph Station was a Dukes of Hazard stop! Ella & Oscar suddenly called out "there's smoke in the back"! I think we'd all leapt out of the car before it even came to a complete stop. The wires on the battery in the boot had rubbed through and burnt a hole in my beach bag, thankfully Steve was able to disconnect the offending wires.

We drove through Bramwell Station and pulled up for a drink, we'll be stopping here for a night on the way back for sure. The kids had a great time playing the station game of hook the stirrup on the nail.

The cows were a huge attraction, one in particular took a shine to Ella.

The Jardine River Ferry is the most expensive ferry in Australia $129 for a return trip, to cross a river 100 metres wide. The urban legend goes something like this: the locals bulldozed the river banks so that the 4wd's couldn't cross the river and would be forced to pay the ferry man!!

Seisia Caravan Park, $36 unpowered, beachfront, amenities
