Day 280 – Camping at the pub

  • The Lions Den
  • 25°c

A sleep in this morning was just what we needed. Ella & Oscar had a quick brekky and they were out of the van like a flash and down to the river with Max, Bonnie & Olivia. After some morning chores I wandered down to find the girls working on their clubhouse from yesterday, it was most impressive!

Back at camp the boys decided to head into Cooktown for a couple of supplies and to throw a line in off the pier, Max hooked a fish that wasn’t quite size and that was to be the only catch of the day. Rach was hanging out to try the Pubs lasagne so we wandered up to the pub for lunch and were entertained with live music.

There was a wake happening for a man named Tom that had lived at the pub for the last 30 years after fleeing Hungary and he was passed on with the pub over the years each time it was sold, so the story goes! The boys returned somewhat empty handed and the kiddos spent the afternoon at the playground and made some new friends, there were kids everywhere today. Olivia had found a butterfly with a broken wing down by the river and the girls created a safe habitat for it in a bucket and have taken great care of “Spot” all day. Oscar & Max had a couple of games of pool whilst we sat in the pub, enjoying the atmosphere and we were most pleased that this time we were allowed to write on the walls.

After dinner Crocodile Dundee was playing in the Karma Bus for the kiddos, I was feeling tired so stayed back at camp whilst Steve, Troy and Rach (the Wine-Tard) went up the pub to dance on the tables!! On their return they had quite a few good stories to tell including the older, somewhat intoxicated gentleman that told Troy he didn’t like him and was convinced he was a Copper!
